Farmy acquires Swiss start-up Blumenpost

press release 3 min read

Press-release from 31 January 2022

The Farmy family is growing: as of 1 February 2022, Blumenpost will officially become a part of Farmy. Farmy thus takes over the sustainable and fast-growing Swiss start-up and gains a foothold in the rapidly changing flower industry.

Blumenpost is the first sustainable online flower shop in Switzerland. Founded in Zurich in 2019, Blumenpost offers seasonal and regional flowers and delivers them in plastic-free packaging directly to its customers throughout Switzerland. The young company is particularly known for its flower subscriptions, where customers are regularly presented with seasonal flowers. "Because the flower subscriptions give us a high degree of planning security, we only buy the flowers that we actually arrange into bouquets and deliver. This way we offer the freshest flowers and avoid waste," explains Joëlle Hersberger, Co-founder of Blumenpost. In 2021, Blumenpost grew by over 200% and delivered more than 16,000 bouquets to its customers.

Flowers for the weekly shopping

With the acquisition of Blumenpost, Farmy enters the fast-growing online market for flowers and at the same time expands its offer for existing customers: "In Switzerland, every major supermarket also has a flower shop - we would like to offer that to our customers as well, because for many, bouquets of flowers are simply part of their weekly shopping," explains Tobias Schubert, Co-CEO of Farmy.

As the two companies share many values and are shaking up the food and flower industry with strong sustainability strategies, everyone involved is looking forward to the future together. "In Farmy, we have found the perfect partner to support us in our vision of more sustainable flowers," says Julia Krieg, Co-founder of Blumenpost.

Logistics of flowers and food

"With Blumenpost, we are placing a further focus on in-house production, thereby strengthening the vertical integration of the value chain," emphasises Roman Hartmann, Co-CEO of Farmy. At the same time, interesting synergies can be created: "The logistics of fresh flowers in particular are quite complex and very similar to the requirements of fresh food. That's why it was clear that synergies could be created with a fresh food supplier like Farmy when it comes to transport," explains Jan Neuenschwander, Blumenpost co-founder. So for the start-up Blumenpost, the merger with Farmy means not only growth but also staying true to its values and numerous optimisations in terms of sustainability and convenience.

Flower subscriptions and cardboard boxes

Existing Blumenpost customers are to be gradually transferred into the new system during the integration. For the time being, however, nothing will change and they will still be able to order individual bouquets and flower subscriptions via www.blumenpost.com. From 1 February 2022, however, Blumenpost's bouquets will also be offered on www.farmy.ch. By mid-2022, all subscription options will be introduced. The bouquets will be tied on-site at the Farmy HUB in Altstetten and delivered by Farmy couriers.

"This also means we can finally get rid of the cardboard boxes we previously used for shipping - another step towards sustainability," Julia Krieg is pleased to say. "With Farmy's in-house expertise our website in particular will become much more intuitive. For example, it will be much easier to manage subscriptions, plan deliveries or adjust the size of the bouquets ourselves," emphasises Jan Neuenschwander. The IT team at Farmy developed the entire Farmy system themselves, which also resulted in the Farmy Solutions software solution.
