Farmy: 40 % more orders than in Corona record year

Medienmitteilung press release 3 min read

Media release 5 January 2022

With sales of CHF 32 million, Farmy once again achieved significant growth in the past year. And it did so thanks to a good deal of initiative and the will to innovate: in addition to the introduction of the robotic Scallog system, the Farmy Bakery was introduced and Farmy X-Press (delivery within three hours) was launched.

Strengthened by the previous year, Farmy continued to grow above market in 2021. Over the course of the year, Farmy delivered 40 % more orders than in the Corona record year of 2020, and in French-speaking Switzerland the figure is even higher at 50 %. As a result, the young company from Zurich generated sales of CHF 32 million. Calculated over the past four years, this results in an average growth in turnover of 70 %.

Shopping basket value increased

While the average basket value had shot up to CHF 144 during the lockdown in the Corona crisis, it has now stabilised at CHF 127. This is CHF 10 higher than the pre-Corona value of CHF 117.

The Farmy Bakery fires up

Farmy has been offering freshly baked bread from the in-house Farmy Bakery for a few months now. Here, the Online Market bakes products of Bio Suisse quality in cooperation with the bakery fredy's from Baden. To ensure freshness, breads and other baked goods are finished at Farmy just in time for delivery.

"The Farmy Bakery is only the first step in the vertical integration that we will continue to drive forward this year. We want to set up our own production facilities in other areas and expand direct sourcing from farms even further," explains Roman Hartmann, co-CEO of Farmy.

Even faster delivery: Farmy X-Press

In autumn 2021, Farmy successfully tested 3-hour delivery in the Zurich area with Farmy X-Press, and this is now being officially launched. X-Press delivery is currently available in the Zurich core area with a reduced range, which will be further expanded geographically and in terms of product range in the current year.

With X-Press, Farmy is responding to the contemporary desire of customers to be able to organise their weekly shopping in the shortest possible time. It complements the idea of saving time with the delivery service, which is already an argument in favour of weekly shopping in the Online Market for many Farmy customers. It was only a question of time and available capacity before the company would offer this service.

Tobias Schubert, co-CEO of Farmy, explains: "The introduction of 3-hour delivery is the logical step to make ordering fresh groceries at Farmy even more convenient for our customers."

Time slots for X-Press delivery will be offered from 08:00 - 22:00 Monday to Friday. This gives customers the opportunity to receive their order within 3 hours, for example in the early morning for a snack or at noon for the evening. On Saturday, the latest possible delivery slot is 17:00 - 18:00.

Innovative solutions to follow in 2022

After the successful implementation of Scallog's robotic assistants in the dry goods warehouse, the system is also to be introduced at the e-food company's second location in Ecublens. In addition, more vehicles have already been ordered, further expanding Farmy's own e-fleet. In the future, cargo e-bikes will also be tested for deliveries of X-Press orders in Zurich.

And with the promise of more news and innovations, the co-managing directors of Farmy are looking forward to an exciting year.
